I want to welcome you all to my first installment of “Appearing Live Tonight! The Chronicles of a Live Music Junkie”
Let me begin by introducing myself. I am a 56 year old successful trial attorney and music enthusiast. I have made live music a hobby, experiencing live local and international touring musicians, performers and recording artists creating my passion since my early teenage years. My seventh grade music class introduced me to rock opera’s such as Jesus Christ Superstar, Godspell and Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat. My next musical journey led me to early live concerts of James Taylor, Carly Simon, Linda Ronstadt, Boston, Kiss and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. I remember standing in line for general admission at Hot Tuna and Grateful Dead shows.
What has transpired through the years, now that I am a responsible adult, is an incredible love and respect for live musical performers and musicians in the blues and rock genres.
I used to stay local to the New York City, Long Island area, but now find myself traveling to all points possible like, South Florida, Chesapeake Bay and Upstate New York. Most recently, I enjoyed Memphis and Clarksdale, Mississippi, the birth place of the Delta Blues, to graciously experience my favorite genres and recording artists The Tedeschi Trucks Band, Gov’t Mule and Hot Tuna, just to name a few.
In addition to recently being named music editor of NightlifeMag.com, I serve on the Board of Directors of the Long Island Blues Society (LIBS). I was a Judge for the LIBS International Blues Competition whereby local affiliates send local blues bands and solo/dual acts to the International Blues Federation Competition held every year on Beale Street in Memphis.
I have assisted in hosting long running, Blues on the Bay, musical concert fund raisers and had the pleasure of introducing on stage Grammy winning artist Bobby Nathan and his band, as well as world touring acts such as Jane Lee Hooker and others.
It seems every week I attend live shows including local musicians Kerry Kearney, Frank Kingbee Latorre or The Johnny Mac Band. Other weeks I enjoy world renowned performers Luther Dickinson, Mike Zito, Samantha Fish, Devon Allman, Dana Fuchs and the like.
It is with my dedication and love of live music, combined with my commitment to support live music that I will bring you a little bit of the musicians, artists, performers, shows and venues I just happen to experience in addition to the happenings of Nightlife near you.
